SibFU take part in all-Russia Congress of international students

A delegation from the Krasnoyarsk Region including SibFU members participated in an all-Russia Congress of the International Students Association. The event was held in the city of Orel on May 13-16, 2015.

Over 170 students from 65 countries of South America, Africa and Asia arrived in Orel to discuss issues of study, leisure and social adaptation for international students in Russia.

The participants were involved in sports competitions, got tested their Russian language skills in a contest, sang songs and danced at a gala concert. 17 representatives of various embassies such as Yemen, Nigeria, Congo, Tanzania, Guatemala and others were also engaged in the Congress.

SibFU student Asel Sartpaeva says: “The 3-day Congress was dedicated to the 70 anniversary of the Great Victory. I ‘ve learned a lot of valuable information about international students’ educational process, their social adaptation issues, legal status and employment opportunities during off-study time, responsibility for breaking laws, and possibility of getting to know the culture and lifestyle of Russia better. I’ve made friends with people from all over the globe”.

Vassily Nikulenkov, Director of Geopolitics Centre, the University International Department, SibFU: “Any region in Russia benefits from extended international business and cultural connections. Thus, thanks to the Congress in Orel region has signed cooperation agreements with Benin, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Orel State University is negotiating with their representatives over foundation of joint research and educational centres.
In my view Siberian Federal University might also benefit from hosting events of such type, since satisfied international students disseminate positive information about our country and enhance a favourable image of Russia in the world. It is really important for any university to become a genuine center of both education and culture for international students and make their years of study most memorable”.

David Minasyan, SibFU student: “I do my Bachelor’s in International Relations, so for me the Congress has become a great opportunity to meet the ambassadors. It’s an invaluable experience and practice for me. The whole event was great fun. It was a chance to speak foreign languages and share positive emotions with a large number of people from all over the world. I have made many friends, understood more about diverse cultures and even picked up basics of some languages. All in all it was an amazing event”.
