PhD is an analogue of the traditional Russian academic degrees: "Candidate of Science" and "Doctor of Science" and awarded in Western and several Russian universities.

According to the rector of SibFU, Evgeny Vaganov, competition to study on the programs PhD SibFU is conducted within the framework of the Project 5top100.

"The aim of the competition is to attract motivated and talented young Russian and international scientists for the scientific research at the University — PhD students who will be able to write and defend a thesis to get an international degree under the supervision of leading scientists of the university, — said Evgeny.  — The education is paid but the six candidates who show the best results will get scholarships.

Scholarship support is 600 thousand rubles a year. It is assumed that the sum will be used to cover the annual costs of training, research, housing payments in a comfortable residence hall or apartment, insurance and other expenses. Scholarship is appointed for one year with the following renewal according to the results of the report for the year.

Young scientists from Russian and foreign universities under 30 years old, with English language proficiency at a level not lower than B2 (upper-intermediate) and with experience of scientific work confirmed by publications in peer review scientific journals can apply for the scholarship.

PhD SibFU was launched one and a half year ago. Since then two dissertations have been defended. May 30, 2016 at the meeting of the Academic Council of SibFU first holders of the PhD degree — Olesya Kolmakova (supervisor Prof. Mikhail Gladyshev) and Alexander Mkrtchyan (supervisor Prof. August Tsikh) — received certificates signed by the rector of SibFU Evgeny Vaganov, president of SibFU Alexander Uss and Krasnoyarsk Territory Governor Viktor Tolokonsky.
