School of Catastrophes Opens at SibFU

From 19 to 23 July 2021, the International Summer School on Emergencies in the Technosphere is being held online at the Polytechnic School, Siberian Federal University. This is the first such summer school and has already gathered students from different parts of Russia, as well as Iraq, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Uzbekistan.

The participants are schoolchildren, university students and active specialists of labour protection services, supervision bodies, environmental safety agencies and others.

Topics of the summer school:

  • Environmental Protection;
  • Risk Management and Emergency Modeling;
  • Security systems;
  • Planning and Technique of the Experiment;
  • Emergencies and Disasters.

“The school primarily supports the social mission of the university – the popularization of knowledge for those who want to understand the causes and nature of catastrophes and disasters. Every year the number of disasters and their consequences are growing, causing panic moods in society. The recent rise of the level of the Yenisey in Krasnoyarsk Territory has caused a lot of controversy and unrest among ordinary people. But experts understood that this was a calculated hydrological regime, which, with the correct prompt response of emergency services and given that residents will observe the necessary precautions, does not pose serious threats. Thus understanding the nature, disasters and actions in case of an emergency is not only interesting but also allows reducing social tension in society as a whole,” said the coordinator of the international school, associate professor of SibFU Lyudmila Kulagina. “Students may join the weekly intensive course which includes lectures and practical sessions, and discussions.
