SibFU at the Congress of Young Scientists

The SibFU delegation is now in Sochi, which is holding a series of large-scale events on 6-10 December 2021 completing the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. The delegation includes 10 young scientists who have achieved significant results, each in their own field of research. The head of the delegation is Ruslan Baryshev, SibFU's vice-rector for research.

The Congress of Young Scientists is the final point of the Year of Science. This is the main platform for discussing topical issues of cooperation in the field of science and education, implementing measures to support young scientists and developing key areas of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation. The business program of the congress brought together more than 3 000 researchers from all over the country and envisages over 90 discussions, sessions, round tables, lectures and plenary sessions.

The Head of State met with the participants of the Congress.

«We have designated the Congress of Young Scientists as one of the main events within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology. And we will try to make sure that this pace is maintained for the future and contribute to a growth of interest in research activities. And for the coming few years, maybe a decade ahead, we will develop a program that would help maintain interest in scientific activities,» said Vladimir Putin in Sochi.

Part of the Congress of Young Scientists is the Vuzpromexpo-2021 scientific and educational exhibition, where leading Russian universities and the largest industrial companies present more than 350 scientific and technological developments.

Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation: “The purpose of the exhibition is to demonstrate the interaction of Russian universities and scientific institutes with enterprises of the real sector of the economy, business and industrial partners. Ideas that are born within the walls of universities should be continued in production, become part of the industry and turn to world-class products.”

SibFU presented eight projects at the exhibition:

A test system that allows controlling a functional state of the human body during physical exertion with the use of bioluminescent analysis of the athlete's saliva. The test system is simple and rapidly gives the result. The product can be used both in the training system of professional athletes and in health organizations, fitness clubs, etc.

Development of the concept of creating intelligent twins of metallurgical equipment based on physical modelling methods, virtual reality technologies, predictive analytics and artificial intelligence. The development is a model of a semicontinuous ingot casting unit in a virtual environment. The user can move around the room, perform actions (open the furnace, close the furnace, etc.), make decisions, train the skills of using the equipment.

Bimetal made by explosion welding. Development of processes using explosion energy (welding, hardening, cutting). A distinctive feature of this development is that the possibility of peeling off the aluminium and steel parts of the adapter during operation is completely excluded. The invention can be used in various fields of the metalworking industry and chemical mechanical engineering in manufacturing large metal structures.

HD-video transmission system for UAVs. The system is designed to transmit a video stream from UAVs in HD up to 1080p at a distance of up to 100 km over a radio channel in the frequency range from 800 MHz to 2400 MHz. A distinctive feature of the system is a high speed of information transmission, up to 12 Mbit/s, high frequency efficiency and high noise immunity due to the use of a special digital signal processing (DSP) system based on the recommendations of the DVB-T2 standard.

Demonstration plate with samples of products from biopolymers obtained by microbiological biosynthesis in the laboratory of new materials of Siberian Federal University. The plate is made of cardboard in the corporate style of SibFU and contains cells with the samples. The samples represent volumetric products with dimensions of 20–30 mm, in the form of powders, plates, tubes and blocks. The areas of application of these products are surgery (suture, mesh endoprostheses based on threads for hernioplasty, fasteners for orthopaedic technologies — bones, ligaments, 3D products for the replacement engineering of bone fragments and organs, nonwoven fabric — replacement bioengineering of vessels and other tubular tissue formations). Also, these products can be used in agriculture as biodegradable polymer products to replace non-destructible non-woven, film, as well as core structures and depot forms for targeted delivery of agrochemicals.

SNOWORD digital information and educational platform. This is a large complex project that provides for the implementation of innovative educational programs for pre-university training, vocational guidance of applicants and students, additional professional education for students who are representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation.

Laboratory of Deep Learning. The laboratory is developing several projects (software developments) using artificial intelligence technologies for various fields of application.

Electronic multimodal corpus of Russian Sign Language Regiolects in Eastern Siberia. The corpus is a collection of gestures. The informants were Russian sign language speakers living in Krasnoyarsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory), Abakan (Republic of Khakassia), Irkutsk (Irkutsk Region) and Kyzyl (Republic of Tyva). The created electronic platform contributes to the development of the set of issues, fairly new for Russia, which is related to the linguistic positioning and standardization of the Russian sign language, a special sign system correlated with natural human languages through which the deaf and acoustically challenged communicate. The study contributes to the formation of an accessible communication environment for people with special hearing needs and to their social integration (primarily, educational and professional).

“The University annually participates in the Vuzpromexpo. This is a specialized exhibition for higher education. Universities, as a rule, try to exhibit the latest developments here. That means that participation is an opportunity to get acquainted with the modern developments of dozens of universities all over the country at once, to catch trends and at the same time present the university," noted vice-rector for Research Ruslan Baryshev. "This year, the exhibition is being held on a very large scale, with the participation of top officials. This is a large scientific forum where everyone has the opportunity to build the richest and most useful program for themselves. The participants have practically no free time. I hope that, as a result, the university will acquire new partners, and some projects will receive an additional vector of development.”

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko awarded gratitude and a commemorative medal for active participation in the events of the Year of Science and Technology, popularization of domestic scientific achievements and increasing the attractiveness of the field of science for young people to Natalya Bakhova, employee of Siberian Federal University and the head of the REC for Young Scientists.
