«Siberian kaleidoscope-2009», the open regional competition of speaking Oriental languages was held on the 28th of February, 2009 in Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU). Students of Department of Modern Foreign Languages of SibFU Institute of Philology and Language Communication were awarded with the prize.

Siberian Federal University and Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences is holding the All-Russian Scientific-Technical Conference «Ultra-Fine Powders, Nano-Structures and Materials» with International Participation on the 15–16th of October, 2009.

Siberian Federal University became a member of European Council for Business Education which is located in Brussels, Belgium.

The international project seminar «Generation-2020» was held on 23-25th of February in Siberian Federal University. The project attracted attention of representatives of the highest level of power, economists and business people of Krasnoyarsk Region. Within the framework of the seminar, the best representatives of studentship formed the youth agenda in economics area for the nearest future.

The presentation of new experimental-industrial device was held on the 5th of March, 2009 on Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (RUSAL). The new inductor will be operated in Novelis, Saguenay, QC (Canada). The new experimental-industrial device is planned to be shipped to the customer at the beginning of March, 2009.

The 1st Rectors’ Forum of Russian, Spanish and Latin-American higher education institutions was held on the 2nd of March, 2009 in Madrid. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Kingdom of Spain and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation within the framework of state visit of Dmitriy Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation.

«Maslenitsa festival» or winter farewell celebration was held on the 1st of March, 2009 in Siberian Federal University.

The Gubernatorial IQ-Ball was held on the 27th of February, 2009. It is the most outstanding event in student life of Krasnoyarsk Region. For the first time the Ball was held in the format of federal universities’ ball: the delegation of Southern Federal University (Rostov-on-Don City) and the delegation of Far East Federal University (Vladivostok City) specially arrived to Krasnoyarsk on invitation of students to participate in the Event.

Eugene A. Vaganov, Academician of RAS, Rector of Siberian Federal University, has become the laureate of international prize «Person of the year» in a special nomination called «For the contribution to the development of education system». The awarding ceremony was held on the 25th of February, 2009 in the President Hotel, Moscow. Henry Reznik, President of Law Chamber of Moscow, Vice-President of the Federal Union of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, presented the prestigious award to Eugene A. Vaganov.

Siberian GEO-forum was held in Krasnoyarsk. Siberian Federal University was represented by Institute of Mining, Geology and Geotechnology, Institute of Engineering Physics and Radio Electronics, Institute of Urban Construction, Management and Regional Economics, Institute of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Institute of Space and Information Technology.
