Scientific expedition: Great Yenisey river

The international scientific expedition to study the Yenisey river ecosystems will start on 10 June 2012. The expedition includes 18 researchers from Siberian Federal University.

The hydrobiological expedition to study Siberian forests and their role in the global ecosystem will continue until 4 July. It is to contribute to forecasting anthropogenic environmental changes. Researchers will study the Yenisey river, its soil, air, forests, the river and its tributaries.

The expedition is funded by the Russian Government. The funding was allocated for the 'Biogeochemistry of Eurasian ecosystems' project in 2010 and it gave an opportunity to attract Professor Ernst-Detlef Schultze, a prominent German researcher, and Professor Emeritus at Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry. The project will last for 3 years and its total cost is 130 million roubles (about 4 million dollars). The project will include leading researchers from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, France and China.
