Artem Alsufyev and Natalia Borisova, students from the Institute of Economics, Management and Environmental Sudies attended the G20 Youth Summit in Washington.

The Summit attracted young people aged between 18 and 30 from 20 countries. Similar to what happens with the representatives of senior administration in real life, young people discussed international agenda in the US capital. The Russian delegation included 15 students from nine Russian cities. They are future experts in various fields: from international law to environmental issues.

Team members sustained a long and difficult process of selection: essay wriring, sms voting, a skype interview. SibFU's students attended preparatory briefings at the Russian President administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and UN Moscow Office in March. Team work resulted in electing Artem Alsufyev to become sherpa (President's Assistant) while Natalia Borisova was elected to be susherpa (President's Deputy Assistant). The student team prepared a report on Russia's economy and politics.

The summit attendees discussed the issues of social care, energy safety, environmental protection, renewable energy sources, food crisis, entrepreneurship, strengthening financial systems and resolving ethnic conflicts.

The summit's final document represented Russia's interests for a broad scope of issues: representing developing countries at international institutions, the future of G20 and the concept of sustainable development. The final document mentioned Russia's priviledges in the Arctics and the equal access to human rights and demicratic institutions even in partially recognized and unrecognized states. The document will be forwarded to the heads of G20 states.

Knowledge of Russian international politics, global international agenda and fluent English is not their only advantage. In addition, they have mastered diplomatic etiquette and they can control their emotions. They are flexible and they know how to avoid conflicts at the time of negotiations. Following the diplomatic protocol does not only mean good manners, it is quite a complicated skill. Vasily Nikulenkov, Senior Lecturer at the Institute for the Humanities, SibFU says. Vasily Nikulenkov is also Russian team's coach. Youth diplomacy is gaining popularity, the university is strengthening its position in this field. SibFU's students won the competition for the second time in a row. Diplomatic games has recently become established practice and the university has launched the educational project 'UN model'.
