New study programme at SibFU

SibFU's unique study programme (BSc in Biochemical Physics) will be launched in September. Siberian Federal University is one of the five universities in Russia and a single university in Siberia and Russian Far East where the study programme is taught.

According to Professor Valentina Kratasyuk, the new programme director, the university has a long-standing tradition of teaching study programmes in biophysics, radioecology and medical physics: «The programme's core subjects are physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology. These will be mixed with specialised modules which should help them to find a job in multidisciplinary fields and to do specific research.». New students will work in well equipped laboratories which have the equipment for enzyme kintetic analysis, a luminiscent spectrometer, multimodal tablet reader, spectrofluorometer, bioluminometer, sequenator, chromotograph, etc.

«What is more important, students admitted to the programme will work under the supervision of a Nobel laureate.», — Valentina Kratasyuk said. They will be engaged in research at SibFU's laboratory of bioluminescent technologies. The laboratory head is Professor Osamu Shimomura, Nobel laureate in chemistry. In addtition, the programme partners are the Institute of Biophysics, RAS SB; Institute of Forest, RAS, SB; Institute of Computational Modelling, RAS, SB; environmental services from Krasnoyarsk and Krasnoyarsk Krai.
