Round Table

The congress featured the round table 'Engineering in Mining and Metallurgy to discuss regional technological programmes 'Innovatitive Technologies in Metallurgy' and 'Developing Mineral Resources' at SibFU's Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Insitute of Mining and Geology. Experts say that developing regional technological programmes will contribute to consolidating financial and administrative resources to provide a flow of innovative equipment and technologies for regional mining and metallurgy. This will result in competitive products and their promoting at national and international markets.

SibFU at congress sessions

SibFU faculty and doctoral students presented about 50 research papers. SibFU's distinguished researchers conduct joint investigations with major companies.

Professor Nikolai Dovzhenko leads a group researching new alloys with rare earth metals. The project is a joint investigation of SibFU and RUSAL company and it was presented in the session 'Metal Forming and Thermal Processing'. According to Victor Mann, RUSAL's technical director, 'cable industry needs aluminium and circonium rods that have many advantages compared to what we normally have. The project has been developed at SibFU and the prototype equipment has been tested at the university. We have been developing its industrial production at Irkutsk Aluminium Plant».

Other joint projects include the project on developing the technology of deformed semi-finished goods made of gold alloys. The project was presented by Profesor Sergey Sidelnikov's group and it is conducted with Krasnoyarsk Non-ferrous Metals Company. Another project is a joint study with Krasnoyarsk Scientific Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch. It is about the functional properties of iron hydroxide nanochrystals and the project head is Dr Natalia Agebraistova.
