Nobel laureate to become SibFU's honorary professor

Osamu Shimomura, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, will receive SibFU's Honorary Professor Diploma on 24 September 2012.

Dr Shimomura will become SibFU's first honorary professor. According to university policy, 'Honorary Professor" title can be given to Russian and international researchers without their taking a course of studies or meeting publication requirements. They should be known in a field of research for their scholarly or technological achievements, for contributing to developing science or technology or for creating international collaboration between SibFU researchers and international scholars.

Osamu Shimomura was invited to SibFU to conduct joint research financed by the Russian Government in the field of biotechnology. The funding was received in September 2011.

Osamu Shimomura is head for the project of building a research laboratory to study bioluminescence.

This is Osamu Shimomura's second visit to SibFU after his first visit in June this year.
