Smart glass technology

Andrey Belousov, SibFU's doctoral student, has developed the technology to save on producing smart glass. Andrey's research supervisor is Professor Tamara Patrusheva from the Department of Robotics and Nanotechnology.

Smart electrochromic glass that changes transparency depending on the amount of electric current is an alternative to curtains and darkening screens. Smart glass saves electricity and controls heating expenses in winter. It decreases the loss of heat by up to 450 percent. Smart glass is strong and reliable. It can be used in atumobile industry, aircraft and spacecraft industry. Smart glass can be used both for internal and external installations. Its disadvantage is its high cost.

According to Andrey Belousov, his research project is about making the technology much cheaper. According to the young inventor's preliminary estimates, the glass will be twice cheaper compared to that produced internationally. It will cost about 5,000 roubles (170 dollars) for 1 square metre. «We never use vacuum deposition when producing smart glass. Our method is about making chemical solutions for film deposition».
