The Ministry of Industrial Production and Energy, Krasnoyarsk Krai, allocated 9,45 million roubles to support the research, headed by Professor Eugeny Boiko, Director of the Polytechnic Institute, SFU.

The team's research project is about evaluating the feasibility of applying renewable energy to regional needs. It corresponds to the long-term regional programme 'Energy efficiency and energy saving in Krasnoyarsk Krai'. The programme encompasses the periods from 2010 to 2012 and from that point to 2020.

The project aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • analysis and evaluation of the most suitable technology for renewable energy;
  • evaluation of potential energy sources in the region;
  • developing proposals to build an effective model of applying renewable energy to the needs of municipalities.
Eugeny Boiko

«It is a large and meaningful source of financial support and it forms the first step in developing the regional technological platform 'Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving'. The institiute develops research projects for the platform Eugeny Boiko said. — Renewable energy might be obtained from combined technologies: wind and diesel power generation; wind and solar power; wind, diesel and solar power. They will be also combined with traditional technologies.

Potential technical solutions will become the foundation for the proposals on applying renewables in the region for the short-term and long-term period. The team will also develop the legal solutions to build a favourable environment for investments and developing regional economy».
