Urban designers from Japan visit SibFU

The representatives of Nikken Sekkei LTD visited SibFU on 26 April 2013.

Nikken Sekkei develops several projects in Russia: urban construction on artificial islands in the Finnish Bay, developing the International Tourism Centre at the Baikal lake, designing smart cities and employing green technologies in seven Russian cities. The company has branches in several countries (China, South Korea, Vietnam, UAE).

The parties discussed collaboration perspectives: public lectures for SibFU's students and the possibility of internships at the Japanese company.

Hiroaki Otani, Chief Architect at the Design Section, thanked SibFU's senior management for receiving comapny's representatives at the university. He expressed his hope that the company could contribute to the development of Russia and to the university's development.

SibFU's Vice Rector (Research and International Collaboration Sergey Verkhovets said: «SibFU includes the Institute of Engineering and Construction and the Institute of Architecture and Design. We are interested to learn about our Japanese colleagues' experience in urban design for international markets. We are also interested in learning about designing the infrastructure for large cities, especially those located in difficult climate zones with the calculated temperature of design lower minus forty degrees Celsius.

In addition, the university start-ups working on design in civil construction and engineering may be also interested in learning about Japanese experience in the field».
