Krasnoyarsk krai's Legislative Assembly awarded Academician Joseph Gitelson, Head of Research at the Institute of Fundamental Biology and Biotechnology, SibFU, the title of Krasnoyarsk krai's Honorary Citizen at its session on 20 September 2013.

Joseph Gitelson, an MD, biologist and distinguished biophysicist, has recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of his research and educational activity. His is also a founder of the Institute of Biophysics (Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch, Krasnoyarsk).

Professor Gitelson has extensively published on the biophysical analysis of erithrocyte populations, blood system regulation, controlling the biosynthesis of microbal populations, closed ecological life support systems, biophysical methods of environmental monitoring, and bioluminescent analysis.

The title of the Honorary Citizen is Krasnoyarsk krai's highest award.
