Science Museum launched at SibFU

The Museum of Science and Innovation launched on 11 October 2013 at SibFU is the first science museum in Krasnoyarsk krai.

Its first visitors were secondary school pupils. They could try devices and interactive exhibits to study some basic laws of mechanics, optics, electricity. SibFU students demonstrated 'Euricum' experiment to make a science show. In addition, museum visitors could attend master classes where SibFU researchers extracted DNA from berries and fruit, purified water with an innovative sorbent, and demonstrated how sparkling water affects a human body.

Visitors can touch museum exhibits and they can try how exhibits work. In particular, they can find out how fast they respond to stimula, learn to draw on mirror reflections, and try magnetism. Visitors can also see how a 'lie detector' works, build a magnetic bridge and see their multiple reflections in a folding mirror.

SibFU students demonstrated 'Euricum' experiment at the museum launch event. They showed experiments to understand how liquid nitrogen, hydrogen and flame affect various objects.

SibFU's Vice Rector (Research and International Collaboration) Sergey Verkhovets said that the museum's mission would be working with secondary school tours. «Launching a science museum and promoting science among secondary school students is a part of the university's policy. We want children to see that science is not at all boring. These events may attract motivated students to the university», — Sergey Verkhovets said.

The museum was initiated by Young Researchers' Educational Centre. Funding came from the RF Ministry of Education and Research and New Eurasia Foundation. The museum exhibits were designed by a team from Irkutsk Science Museum 'Experimentarium'.
