Siberian Federal University

GWC ranking is from the International Council of Scientists with experts from 40 leading universities around the world. The council is an NGO, its headquarters is in Riga, Latvia. The experts of the International Council of Scientists are carefully selected, the international council takes into account their research and professional achievements. Five SibFU's researchers joined the International Council of Scientists in 2013.

The university rating depends on three components:

• communicability of a university homepage;
• faculty and their activity, their publications and citation index, conditions for learning and studies;
• university activity and its reputation.

Eugenia Turtapkina, Deputy Vice Rector (Research and International Collaboration), spoke about the social importance of the rating: «A lot of agencies rank universities according to selected criteria. We have identified a narrow circle of agencies with a reputation in educational and research community. We have done a lot to take higher positions in these agencies' ratings. Rating SIR is the most important international rating of research organizations, rating QS-Stars is widely famous and it is directed to potential students across the world. Rating GWC is among them. It shows the importance of a university for its region, demand for its research and its graduates. The university ranking is confirmed by respected professionals and researchers across the world».

Harvard University takes the first place in the rating, the last place in top 500 universities belongs to National Research Nuclear University. Moscow State University has 61st place, the only Russian university in top 100 universities.
