Doctoral student from SibFU receives prize for the best research paper in entropy

Mathematics research paper «Entropy: The Markov Ordering Approach» (.pdf) by a research team that includes SibFU's doctoral student Pavel Gorban' received 2014 best paper award, according to international and multidisciplinary 'Entropy' journal.

The prize is annually awarded to the most interesting papers in entropy and information studies published during the previous five years.

The paper is about entropy and Markov processes and it studies the properties of functionals which are invariant in respect to monotonic transformations. The paper analyzes two invariant 'additivity' properties.

Pavel Gorban' did his part of research (describing functionals) when he was a doctoral student at the Institute of Space and Information Technologies, SibFU. He co-authored the paper with the Head of the Centre of Mathematical Modelling at the University of Leicester (UK) Alexander Gorban' and Professor George Judge from the University of California (USA).

Alexander Gorban worked as a visiting professor at SibFU in 2009-2011. The research project was supported by the Federal Agency of Research and Innovation.
