The rector of SibFU met with international students

On 4 March 2022, rector of Siberian Federal University Maksim Rumiantsev met with international students and answered their questions regarding security, organization of the educational process and finances.

To date, 925 foreigners are studying at Siberian Federal University. The meeting was attended by representatives of Latvia, Japan, Spain, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, Egypt, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and leaders of unions and associations.

“In a difficult foreign-policy situation, students from abroad are in a particularly vulnerable position away from their families, and they need our support. The first and most important thing I want to say is that the university works at the same mode, nothing changes for students and personnel — we continue to provide educational and research processes, safety and comfort,” the rector said.

Prof Rumiantsev noted that in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation, the university takes all organizational, technical, informational and financial measures to ensure the safety of students. At the request of the international students, the University will translate instructions and hold additional seminars on actions during emergency situations.

Many people are concerned about the recognition of the Russian education and qualifications in their native countries. According to the rector, today SibFU degree diploma is recognized in all countries of the world, but in the current circumstances it is difficult to predict anything. For its part, the university guarantees the fulfillment of its obligations — upon graduation, all SibFU graduates will have a state official diploma of higher education.

Due to the restrictions on the work of Russian banks abroad, the students asked fair questions about receiving and sending money transfers. The Department for International Cooperation and the Department of Economy and Finance of Siberian Federal University expressed their readiness to tackle students' problematic situations in case they arise.

At the end of the meeting, Maksim Rumiantsev stressed that the students at Siberian Federal University are not divided either by nationality or geography.

“Higher human values, mutual understanding and respect are now more important than ever. We will fully fulfill all the obligations that the university took at the start of your studies. Due to the uncertainty and rapid changes, we cannot give universal advice or solutions. We are guided by your personal comfort and safety and are ready to provide comprehensive assistance on an individual basis upon request,” the rector added.

Earlier, Prof. Rumiantsev spoke to the university personnel in connection with the political situation.
