SibFU opens a Digital Department

Russian universities launch recruitment of students for digital departments in the coming September. More than 385 thousand people are expected to graduate from digital departments by the end of 2025. The project is being implemented on the basis of 115 universities, both participating and just going to participate in the Priority 2030 program. The universities will offer 300 educational programs for students; training starts in September 2022.

According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, more than 80 thousand young people will enter the digital departments and get additional IT qualifications already this year.

“Each university develops educational programs for additional professional retraining. In total, more than 300 of them will be launched on the basis of digital departments, for instance, a developer of digital products, web applications, administration of domestic operating systems and many others. The number of digital departments will expand. They will be opened at universities that will join the Priority 2030 program,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister.

Students will have to undergo a comprehensive assessment of the development of digital competencies in the learning process. For this purpose, an assessment center has been formed on the basis of Innopolis University. Students will be offered tests and case studies in accordance with the subject of their professional retraining programs. Their results will allow assessing the level students’ digital competencies upon graduation from the digital departments.

Siberian Federal University will also open a digital department. According to the head of the Centre of Continuing Education Elena Moshkina, the digital department implies the acquisition of IT competencies by students of almost all areas of training and degree programs of the university.

“IT students will be able to expand their knowledge, and those who study in fundamentally different degree programs will be able to gain basic knowledge sufficient to successfully start working in this sector of the economy. Today we can announce the opening of three IT programs,” said Ms Moshkina.

Programs

  • Application Programming in Python

This program gives theoretical and practical training in the field of application of technologies for the development of software systems and web applications. The program helps master Python and shows its capabilities for creating algorithms, computer programs and applications. The emphasis of the program is on the practical application of language constructions in the applied fields.

  • Media Design and Development of Digital Products and Services in Creative Industries

The program teaches human-machine interaction methodologies, architecture and graphic design of system and application interfaces, and the use of digital technologies in creative industries. In addition to project activities, the program includes learning the features of the creation of research developments in the field of creative industries. The main positions that graduates of the program can apply for: web designer; graphic designer; interface designer; 3D Modeller; CG Artist; Video Designer; VFX Artist; Game Designer. The practical part of the program is related to the development of interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of creative industries, including culture, art, and technologies for the development of software products and services, for example, game development, Art&Science, interactive media directing, while using the full range of multimedia technologies: sound design, 3D modelling, virtual and augmented reality environments and others.

  • Switching and Routing Technologies Based on Huawei Equipment

The program has been developed in accordance with the professional standard "Communications (Telecommunications) Engineer" and is aimed at developing skills in designing, configuring and using telecommunication topologies capable of transmitting, receiving and processing various types of information built on the basis of Huawei equipment used as part of modern communication and telecommunications systems. Graduates of the program will be able to apply modern methods of designing, deploying and configuring individual fragments of information systems to achieve sustainable and efficient modes of their operation; formulate requirements that must be met to ensure the necessary level of information security for information resources provided with unrestricted access and control of risks arising in this regard.

Digital departments were launched within the framework of the Development of HR potential in the IT Industry federal project (Digital Economy national program), created on the basis of the strategic initiative approved by the Prime Minister.
