Josep A. Acebillo, the Chief Architect of the City Council of Barcelona, gives a lecture at Siberian Federal University

Josep A. Acebillo was appointed Barcelona’s City’s Chief Architect and Council Commissioner for Infrastructures and Urbanism in 1999 and has been responsible for its urban transformation since 1981. During this time, the city of Barcelona has won many awards, including the Prince of Wales Prize in Urban Design by Harvard University (1990), Premio Special de Urbanismo de la Unione Europea (1998), the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture by the RIBA (1999), and the Special Award for the 8th International Architecture Exhibition by the Biennal of Venice (2002). He has been professor at the Architecture School of Barcelona since 1974 and later at the GSD (Graduate School of Architecture, Harvard University) and at the School of Architecture of the University of Yale. He is currently Dean of the Architecture Academy Università della Svizzera Italiana (Mendrisio-Lugano).
