On September 8, 2009, Siberian Federal University in the person of Rector Eugene A. Vaganov, Institute of Biophysics SB RAS in the person of Director Andrey G. Degermendzhy, and Institute for Space Sciences (Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany) in the person of Director Jurgen Fischer signed the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of development and use of the methods and technologies of remote sensing of the Earth and Space.

The Agreement is aimed at integrating scientific and educational sources of the institutes in order to organize and implement joint research and academic projects in the field of space technologies.

The main directions of cooperation:

• Organization of scientific seminars, conferences and lectures of visiting professors in order to exchange the experience and practice in the field of environment remote sensing;
• Collaboration in international grants connected with development and use of space technologies;
• Organization of international exchange of master students, post-graduates and research assistants with the aim of training in the field of space technologies;
• Organization of internships and professional development programmes for the staff in order to exchange the experience in the field of space technologies.

The Agreement on Cooperation is also aimed at investigating the impact of environmental and climatic changes on the oceanic and land ecosystems by remote sensing methods.
