SibFU to broaden its international ties

Siberian Federal University was represented as a promising international partner at the Association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard (COIMBRA GROUP). Representatives of the universities of Croatia, Turkey, Finland, Belgium, Spain, Moldova, Belarus, German and Israel showed keen interest in the SibFU presentation.

The COIMBRA GROUP meeting was organized within the framework of the II International conference «Russian language and literature in the international educational space: Current Status and Prospects» held in the University of Granada (Spain).

Representatives of the SibFU Institute of Philology and Language Communication made reports in two sections of the conference. Veronika A. Razumovskaya, the Head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies was the chairman of the section “Translation and Intercultural Communication” and spoke on the poetic text as the object of translation. Elena I. Lotsan, the Associate Professor of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language submitted a report on “Professional translation forums as the sense-making environment (pecularities of communication and prospects for use in teaching) at the section of Theory and Practice of Teaching Russian.

The lecturers of translation and interpreting studies and Russian language of the University of Granada and the Siberian Federal University agreed to cooperate. The first step will be the publication of Krasnoyarsk linguists’ articles in Spanish scientific journal “MUNDO ESLAVO”.

The II International conference “Russian language and literature in the international educational space: Current Status and Prospects” was held in the University of Granada (Spain) on September 8-10, 2010. The conference marked the 55th anniversary of Russian language teaching in Spain and gathered 464 participants from 213 universities from 32 countries.

The participants were greeted by Francisco Gonzalez Lodeyro, the Chancellor of the University of Granada; Rafael Guzman Tirado, the chairman of the organizing committee of the conference; Lyudmila Verbitskaya, the president of MAPRYAL (the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature), the president of the St. Petersburg State University; Alexander Kuznetsov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Spain. The speech of the first lecturer of Russian language in the University of Granada Professor Antonio Pretelya Martinez (Russian language has been taught in the University of Granada since 1961) provoked much interest.
