The tree planting promotion event called «2000 cedars — 2000 names» was started up in Siberian Federal University. By participating in the promotion event, citizens of Krasnoyarsk, SibFU students, alumni, faculty and staff planted more than 2000 cedars on September 10 – 17, 2010.

To make significant contribution to the future cedar forest, the following organizations responded to the event: JSC «Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems», The Youth Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Board of Directors of Specially Protected Natural Reservations of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Krasnoyarsk Engineering College, etc. Krasnoyarsk traffic wardens perpetuated the names of their colleagues died in the military operations by planting 20 cedar plantlets with their families.

By taking part in the event, all people had an opportunity to assign the name to the cedar they had planted. The tree planting virtual map was specially designed to grab attention of a mass audience to the event. Daursky Affiliate of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University «Krasnoyarskles» and forest nursery of the Siberian State Technical University provided the event with the 5,6-years old cedar plantlets. Biologists pointed out that the plantlets will increase the productivity, sustainability and decorative properties of the birch wood and form the basic forest crop when it dies-off.

Another tree planting event was organized for the 1-year students enrolled in the SibFU this year. They were suggested to plant a tree which can act as a symbol of the head-start in their life. Aleksander Uss, President of Siberian Federal University and Edkham Akbulatov, First Deputy Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Chairman of the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory also joined the event to plant the named cedars. Aleksander Uss said: «The city is developed by its citizens and we have all we need to make it cleaner and more attractive».

Evgeny Vaganov, SibFU Rector and Academician RAS said: «At first, tree planting was initiated as a casual event for our University. In order to develop the SibFU campus, we always plant trees and bushes. We were surprised to get such a great public response. More than 500 people responded to the event. People kept on calling even when all the cedars had been planted. I think that if the weather conditions are appropriate, we will continue to plant trees next spring and invite all people to join us».
