SibFU women’s football team at the 9th European Universities Football Championship
The 9th European Universities Football Championship took place in Istanbul, Turkey, between June 19 and 26, 2011.
8 teams participated in the Competition. The SibFU women’s football team consisted of the following football-players: Elena Gorbacheva, Anna Savina, Marina Volkova, Irina Pravdina, Julia Yakovleva, Elena Volodina, Olga Kapustina, Ekaterina Zavadkina, Anna Diyun, Anastasiya Diyun, Marina Ancipherova, Anastasiya Rogacheva. Coach: Nicolai Zheleznov.
The team showed remarkable performance in the group stage comprising teams from France, German and Portugal.
Results:
France – Russia (SibFU) 1:0
Germany – Russia (SibFU) 3:1
Portugal – Russia (SibFU) 0:3
The group stage was finished with the third place won by the SibFU team which had to fight for 5-8 places in the finals.
During the finals, the SibFU team starred its triumph by beating English team 1:0 but missed the chance to win the Turkish team finishing the game with 1:2 score. As a result, the SibFU team returned home with 6 place.
The French team won the first place and German teams ended the Championship with the 2nd and 3rd places.
