On September 21, 2011, the Grants Council of the Government of the Russian Federation revealed the names of 39 scientists - the winners of the second open grant competition of the Government of the Russian Federation designed to support research projects implemented by leading scientists at Russian institutions of higher learning.

Application of Siberian Federal University formed to invite the Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry Osamu Shimomura won in the «Biotechnology» section of the competition.

517 scientists and 176 Russian Universities participated in the competition.

It is necessary to recall that Siberian Federal University became the winner of the first Government grant competition held in 2010.
