SibFu's Faculty Discussed Vladimir Putin's Presidential Campaign Papers

SibFU hosted a round table for the memebers of Siberian expert club to discuss Vladimir Putin's campaign paper 'On Russia's Economic Tasks' published on January 30, 2012.

Over fifity faculty memebers and researchers participated in the discussion. They gave their view of the paper, shared their own economic research concepts, tried to address the question about the national markets in the situation where 'there are no more comfortable niches'. Another question was on generating innovations in the Russian economy instead of buying products abroad

SibFU's Rector Eugene Vaganov argued that the importance of SibFU as the site for discussing Prime Minister's campaign papers cannot be underestimated. The university administration and faculty members remember that a lot of stages in the university development (constructing a new building of the Institute of Oil and Gas, funding a federal university in Siberia) happened under the direct influence of Vladimir Putin. According to Eugene Vaganov, the thesis of the paper and especially its concepts of the new economy embrace global economic concerns. «If we go the way outlined in the paper, this country may start a new development stage based on employing the intellectual potential of research community».

Zoe Vasilieva, Director of the Institute of Economics and Business Management, said that «discussing campaign papers by researchers and faculty members was especially important as it might give a balanced view of Prime Minister's economic concepts».

Eugenia Bukharova, Director of the Institute of Economics, Management and Environmental Studies, gave her view of the paper: «It outlines the concept of the new economy and discusses its tools. It was especially interesting to look at how it approaches the challenges of human capital and Siberian regional development». The paper discusses various aspects of Russia's economic development and it gives the analysis of economic mistakes and achievements. This means that Prime Minister's economic paper will be interesting for non specialists, for the people interested in this country's future

The round table conclusions will result in suggestions that will be forwarded to Vladimir Putin

The next meeting of the Siberian expert club will discuss another campaign paper
