Lecturers, researchers and doctoral students from Siberian Federal University won National Awards in Higher and Professional Education. The National Awards were presented at a ceremony on the 9th of October at the Governor’s Hall, Krasnoyarsk Krai Administration in a celebration of professional excellence.

Galina Terentyeva, a second-year student from the Polytechnic Institute, Siberian Federal University won the bronze award at the 19th World Cup for Speed in Sports Climbing held in Chamonix from 12 to 13 July 2007. Galina's coach is Yu.L. Zhuravleva, Department of Physical Education, the Polytechnic Institute of Siberian Federal University.

Siberian Federal University and Southern Federal University signed a partnership agreement at Sochi Investment Forum This partnership will effectively use combined intellectual, human, financial and material resources to achieve the goals set by the Russian government and by the programmes of the universities’ development for 2007-2010. Several projects and initiatives were outlined in the agreement.

The nineteen-member university football team won the national student championship held in Saransk from 8 to 15 September.

The team’s coaches, Associate Professor N.N. Zheleznov and Senior Lecturer S.V. Smirnov teach at the university’s departments of physical education and they hope that their students will further contribute to the university’s sporting achievements.

Siberian Federal University’s first-year students will end their orientation month with a large athletic event.

As first-year students are becoming new members of the university community, the Student Club at Siberian Federal University invites new and returning students to uncover passions and to learn skills they did not know they had.

The cover of the academic journal Aquatic Ecology features a diagramme from a paper published by the university's researchers N.N. Sushchik, M.I. Gladyshev, E.S. Kravchuk, E.A. Ivanova, A.V. Ageev, G.S. Kalachova. The paper is titled Seasonal dynamics of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in littoral benthos in the upper Yenisei river // Aquat. Ecol.- 2007.- 41.- P. 349-365.

The university’s Botany Conservatory celebrates the new academic year with the blossoming of its exotic orchid Pleurothallis pectinata. This unique plant species (most likely, the only one in Russia) was brought to Siberia from Brazil.

The university administration has chosen 152 research teams and funded their research projects to support early career professors and graduate research assistants in various fields of studies.

The university has launched its first newspaper called "Novaya Universitetskaya Zhizn'" ("New University Life") and it will be published fortnightly during term time.
