The university’s vice-rector (Research and Development) V. I. Kolmakov visited Durham University (Great Britain) on 23-25 November. Dr. Kolmakov and the administration of the British university signed an agreement promoting academic exchange between the two universities.

Siberian Federal Unniversity will soon mark a year since four Krasnoyarsk institutions of higher education merged to create a new, stronger university. The merger received official recognition from the Russian Ministry of Education and Research on 28 November, 2006. This day marks the start of a new Siberian university.

The Krasnoyarsk Centre of Culture and Education hosted the annual costume ball of the Historical Dance Ensemble on 24 November. The student collective tries to promote European dance from the 12th to the 19th centuries. Valentina Pasechnikova, the ensemble head and a student from Siberian Federal University, says: «Our goal is to promote an alternative to night club dancing. Early dance is beautiful, elegant, refined and graceful».

First year students from Siberian Federal University won the first prize at the city competition of student theatrical performance and sketch comedy. They competed against the representatives of seven institutions of higher education located in Krasnoyarsk. The students were charming, intelligent and funny. They performed one of the best sketches during the event, a short comedy made of a French song.

President Putin visited Siberian Federal University on November 13. He was accompanied by Dmitry Medvedev, first deputy prime-minister, and Alexei Kudrin, vice prime-minister, minister of finance.

The Krasnoyarsk Book Fair, held from 7 to 11 November in Krasnoyarsk, attracted about 60 booksellers and publishers from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and various Siberian cities. Siberian Federal University exhibited its academic publications and digital catalogues there to great interest.

Andrey Barhkatov, a web programmer from the Internet Centre, Siberian Federal University, won the first place in a competition of IT specialists held at the First Siberian IT Festival on 1-3 November.

The committee on the Rectorial Election for Siberian Federal University has announced that Prof E.A. Vaganov was elected to the position of Rector for a period of five years. The vote was held on November 2.

Siberian Federal University hosted a regional stage of the World Championship in programming from the 26th to the 29th of October. The winners are from the Institute of Arts and Sciences, SFU. The team received a laptop and will compete at the next stage of the competition in Barnaul.

The annual student competition in theatrical performance, acting and sketch comedy attracted the attention of a large audience at the Theatre of Musical Comedy on the 23rd of October.
