Doctoral students from Siberian Federal University will receive National Awards in Higher and Professional Education on the 17th of October 2008 at a ceremony in the university's conference room.

Siberian Federal University hosts an exhibition of Russian paintings (nineteenth-twentieth centuries) from the regional art museum. A month exhibition will be seen by staff and sudents and will travel around the region in the following months.

Ten SFU students received awards from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The awards are granted for outstanding academic achivements.

Siberian Federal University will stage the Second National IT Festival "World broader than 17 inches" on 11-12 October 2008. The festival will present trends and achievements in IT industry and promote an IT laboratory as a vehicle for creativity and industrial achievements of the future.

Professor Christopher Higgins, Vice-Chancellor, Durham University hosted an evening reception at the University College in honour of the university guests from Siberian Federal University. The reception was attended by Alexey Kulakov, Russian Vice-Consul in Edinburgh, sports representatives (Durham University), lecturers from the Department of Russian, School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Durham University, Russian and British players. The attendees were greeted by Professor Higgins and Professor Kakukhin.

Final game between SFU's football team and Durham University Association Football Club ended with a 4:3 win over the British team. Goals were scored by Denis Ogui and Valery Zykov.

Dr E.I. Shishatskaya, Associate Professor from the Department of Biotechnology, Institute of Fundamental Biology and Biotechnology, SFU, won second place at the Russian National Evaluation Stage of B. Braun International Competition "The Future of Sutures". The award was received for a co-authored paper on resorbable sutures.

SFU's football squad played a friendly match with Durham University football team on September 26. The game ended with a 2:0 win over the British team. The goal scorers were Sergey Khramtsov and Andrey Tolstikhin.

SFU's football team, Russian University Champions, played a match with Shadforth Plough, Durham Sunday Football League at Maiden Castle on September 25. The game ended with a 2:1 win over Shadforth Plough. The next scheduled match is between SFU's team and Durham University football team on September 26.

Siberian Federal University and Santander Bank Group signed an agreement to support educational and research projects and promote academic exchange.
