Olga Nikitina, Head, Agency of Professional Education and Research (Krasnoyarsk Krai Administration), and Eugene Vaganov, Rector, Siberian Federal University signed an agreement to work together to improve the region's labour market and scientific research resources.

Professors and senior management representatives from Siberian Federal University visited South Korea to establish academic contacts with Korean universities.

Graduate students and early career researchers from Siberian Federal University received awards from the city administration at a formal ceremony. The awards are given to early career teachers and researchers who contributed to the community welfare and development.

The university hosted another musical concert featuring a folk music group singing under the guidance of Anatoly Khlopkov, the group's artistic director.

Krasnoyarsk Research Foundation supported the publication of seven books by university researchers and granted individual support to twenty four early career scientists. The Krasnoyarsk Research Foundation and Siberian Federal University work together to explore new ideas and learn from each other, thus contributing to the development of research.

Lubov Glebova, Head of the Federal Agency for Inspection in Education and Research, visited Siberian Federal University. Lubov Glebova attended the meeting of rectors (Krasnoyarsk universities and institutions of higher education). In addition, she spoke to journalists about the State Unified Exam for school-leavers.

Essentials of Scientific Computing covers the basic ideas of different numerical techniques and the interrelation between them. Although intended for use on a numerical methods course for engineering and science students, this text will also be invaluable to research students as a handbook on numerical techniques.

SFU's mountaineering club members climbed the Munku-Sardik, the highest peak in the Eastern Sayan mountains, bordering Mongolia and Buryatia. It was the fourth climbing expedition organized by the university's mountaineering club.

President Medvedev intends to sign the bill creating a network of federal universities to improve the institutions of higher education. This will create a larger pool of quaified labour to support a productive, highly skilled, innovative economy. The government will consider developing a draft bill on federal universities with a federal university in the Russian Far East and several other federal universities to be created in the near future.

The inauguration of Russia's president, Dmitry Medvedev, will take place in the Kremlin Palace, May 7, 2008. Professor Vaganov, SFU's rector, is invited to the inauguration. Dmitry Medvedev is the chair of SFU's Board of Trustees.
