Andrey Feller, a third-year student at the Department of Physical Education, SFU, won a gold medal at the World Championship in ski racing held in Malles, Italy, from 23rd to 29th February, 2008.

Siberian Federal University will host a regional competition of IT Projects on April 18-19, 2008. This annual competition is held as a part of the city exhibition Krasnoyarsk: future technologies.

Three associate professors from Siberian Federal University received early career fellowships from the Vladimir Potanin Foundation. The fellowships provide career development opportunities to young university teachers with a doctorate degree and three-years experience of teaching at an academic institution.

Professor Vladimir Shaidurov, chair in Applied Mathematics at Siberian Federal University and director of the Institute of Computational Modelling, Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch has received a national award from the Russian President for his outstanding research achievements. The award was presented by Alexander Khloponin, the regional governor, at a formal ceremony on March 4, 2008.

Siberian Federal University will host an international festival, Siberia and the World, organized by the Department of International Affairs. The project will increase the scope of the university's cultural and academic contacts and promote academic exchange and research collaboration between Siberian Federal University and its international partners.

Durham University hosted the Russian Festival on February 23, 2008.

Discourse theory was the topic of several public lectures delivered by Professor Michael Makarov from 19 February to 21 February 2008 at the Institute of Philology and Linguistic Communication, Siberian Federal University.

The Institute of Urban Construction, Management and Regional Planning hosted a lecture by Josep A. Acebillo, the Chief Architect of the City Council of Barcelona, on the 15th of February, 2008. Mr Josep Acebillo emphasized his progressive vision of urban environments as unique places with their own images that should complement new economic projects and the economic development of each city.

Olga Shevchenko from the Department of Physical Education won two bronze medals at the World Cup in Ski Orienteering, Bulgaria. The next World Cup Championship will be held in Kazakhstan.

The Vladimir Potanin Foundation has announced the winners of its prestigious scholarship. Twenty students from Siberian Federal University will receive the scholarship awarded for their academic performance, management skills and creativity.
