Andrey Zinovyev spoke about system biology and how it approaches cancer treatment. He talked about Curie Institute and he explained why and how the institution does research in oncology. Dr Zinovyev gave exampes of modelling cell development and he mentioned the technological trends in cancer treatment.

«System biology's vision is to create a virtual patient model to forecast the results of various treatment methods, — Andrey Zinovyev said — A virtual patient is an long and ambitious project but its preliminary results are available for clinical research».

According to Professor Valentina Kratasyuk, head of SibFU's Department of Biophysics, Andrey Zinovyev's lecture was quite inspirational for the first year student from the Institute of Fundamental Biology and Biotechnology. «Andrey Zinovyev is the university's alumnus. His career path is quite interesting. He worked in space physics and computer science and he ended up working in system biology, he is the head of a research unit. Students who are in the beginning of their career in research need to understand that a strong motivation is a way to a successful working life», — Valentina Kratasyuk said.

Curie Institute (Institut Curie) is a leading French research institute with results in biophysics, molecular biology and oncology. It was launched and initiated thanks to the famous physisist and chemist Marie Sklodowska-Curie in 1909. The main task of the institute as outlined by Marie Curie is fighting cancer.

The institute has a lot of research projects to approach studying cancer from a genetic and immunological perspective, the foundations of the medical theory and practice in the twenty first century. The institute researchers attract biologists to analysing their studies results.
