Traditional Japanese music concert in Siberian Federal University

Traditional Japanese music concert led by the famous guest conductor Susumu Matsumoto was held on September 9, 2010 in the SibFU Centre of Japanese Culture. The concert was organized within the framework of the festival called «Russia – Japan: Dialogue of Cultures».

Tatsuaki Sakakosi, Takinami Sigeko and Khasimoto Phusae played national songs and melodies on a three-stringed musical instrument called shamisen.
Susumu Matsumoto is a teacher at the Faculty of Education of the Tokoha Gakuen University (Japan). It was the seventh time he visited Russia. Susumu Matsumoto was 6 times invited to join Krasnoyarsk musical bands in 1991 - 2001.

The Ministry of Culture and the Musical Community of the Krasnoyarsk Territory highly appreciated his contribution to the international cultural music exchange and sent him letters of gratitude many times.

In Japan, Susumu Matsumoto is a conductor of orchestras, chorus, bands, opera, musicals, etc. In 2007, he established the non-profit organization called «Shizuoka Prefecture Orchestra School» and devoted his life to promote traditional folk music among people keeping the Course of the Life-long Education. In 2008, he conducted the biggest concert with 2864 musicians playing taisegoto (Japanese harp) thus setting a new Guinness Record. In 2009, Susumu Matsumoto started his own column devoted to folk musical instruments in the Japanese language daily newspaper «Shizuoka Shimbun». He was writing itinerary about musical instruments from all over the world.

During the concert, Susumu Matsumoto commented the music in English and after the concert he talked with SibFU students craving to learn more about Japanese culture.
