The world economic crisis.Vision from London

John Edwards who supervises business development of London Stock Exchange in Russia read public lecture called «Corporate governance under the conditions of the world crisis. Vision from London» on the 10th of February, 2009 in Siberian Federal University.

Mr. Edwards told students about activities of London Stock Exchange in Russia. According to his version, nowadays there are Russian stakeholders in two areas for so-called gigantic enterprises (Gazprom, Lukoil) and fast-moving middle market companies. He admitted the fact that nowadays London Stock Exchange depends on Russia to a certain extent because Russian shares precisely comprise the lion’s share of trading.

Mr. Edwards refrained from the forecast concerning durability of the world economic crisis. But nevertheless, he pointed out that Russia will come out of the crisis only when oil prices are maintained in the range of 60$/bl. Mr. Edwards expressed his hope that the crisis will have finished over the next 7-9 months.

John Edwards doubly pointed out that despite the crisis, Russian companies ought to formulate their offers to investors right away. Over the last 100 years, world economy passed through at least 3 remarkable crises and always revived. So the best way to overcome the crisis is to start making preparations for stability and business prosperity right now.
