The winners of the Project Contest «Development Energy - 2009» took part in the awarding ceremony held at the office of JSC RusHydro on June 29, 2009. 5 students of Siberian Federal University were among the winners as well.
The Project Contest is aimed at long-term qualified staff-training in the field of hydroenergetics. More than 70 students and PG students competed in the Project Contest. They represented 8 leading technical higher education institutions such as: Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Siberian Federal University, Volgian Polytechnical University, North Caucasus State Technical University, Chuvashia State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Amur State University of Humanities and Pedagogy, etc.
The Project Contest jury comprised the leading specialists in the field of hydroenergetics: heads of companies, discipline heads, senior engineers, JSC RusHydro staff. The Project Contest «Development Energy - 2009» was organized within the framework of the long-term complex charity programme called «A sail of hope». The programme consisting of a diverse range of projects is dedicated to reveal and support talented children from boarding schools and vulnerable families. It is also aimed at supporting sport and educational ecological programmes.

The winners of the Project Contest were the students of the Sayano- Shushenskiy affiliated branch of Siberian Federal University:

• Alexander Kutsenov, 5-year student won the first degree diploma for the project called «Magnetic Loss Calculation in the Power Transformer with the Splitted LW Winding»;
• Igor Valyanskiy, 5-year student won the second degree diploma for the project called «Optimization Methods of Regression Models of Diagnostic Indicators and Assessment of Safety Criteria of Hydraulic Engineering Work»;
• Elena Fefelova, 5-year student won the second degree diploma for the project called «Optimization of Water-energy Regime of Hydroelectric Set Exploitation»;

The following students were awarded with the honorary diplomas:

• Nadezhda Lesnicheva, 3-year student. Project title: «Methods of Electric Power Conservation in the field of Electric Power Supply for BOP needs of Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant»;
• Natalya Erofeeva, 3-year student. Project title: «Rapid Assessment of Construction Efficiency of small Hydroelectric Power Plant».

RusHydro is Russia’s biggest hydro-generating company and the second biggest in the world in terms of installed capacity. RusHydro is the leader in the production of power on the basis of renewable energy sources, developing power generation using water flows, tidal, wind and geothermal energy.
As of 1 January, 2009, the company’s installed capacity amounted to 25,336.6 MW. As a result of implementation of the technical retooling and reconstruction programme, the installed capacity of the Bureyskaya HPP increased by 150 MW, of the Kamskaya HPP by 3 MW and that of the Volzhskaya HPP by MW. The current installed capacity of the Bureyskaya HPP is 1,975 MW, of the Kamskaya HPP – 519 MW, and of the Volzhskaya HPP – 2,551 MW.
At the present time, RusHydro considers the possibility to build 3 HPP in Krasnoyarsk Region: Nizhne-Kureiskaya HPP, Evenkiyskaya HPP and Motyginskaya HPP.
