Nikita Melnikov from the Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, SibFU, won the championship among the athletes weighing less than 96 kilos. The World Championship in Sport Wrestling was in Hungary from 16 to 23 September 2013.

Siberian Federal Univewrsity hosted the first joint seminar on climate change from 5 to 6 September 2013. The seminar was attended by the representatives of Aichi Prefectural University; Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto; Waseda University, Tokyo; Nagoya University.

Students from Japan that will come for their term abroad at Siberian Federal University are going to attend a class of traditional Russian arts. Teachers from the State Centre of Traditional Arts will help student to master Russian crafts.

A delegation from Norway visited SibFU on 23 August 2013. The event was a final stage in the international research expedition to honour Fridtjof Nansen.

International research tour to honour Fridtjof Nansen, a distinguished Norwegian explorer and politician, has been almost competed. Artem Shakhmatov from SibFU's International Department attended the expedition and spoke about the history of exploring Siberian Arctics.

Siberian Federal University and Krasnoyarsk secondary school 10 patented the invention 'Athlete Protection System'. Currently, SibFU and schoool 10 are preparing for patenting six more inventions. The activity is going on within the agreement 'On collaboration for developing innovative potential and preparing new students with a creative potential in engineering'.

SibFU has increased its SIR rating (Scimago Institutions Ranking) by 84 points. SibFU is the only Russian university to demonstrate stable increase for all the indicators of science metrics.

SibFU is launching new study programmes in geography in collaboration with Russian Geographical Society. The three programmes - Physical Geography and Landscape Studies; Economic, Social and Political Geography; Recreational Geography and Tourism - will be based at the Institute of Economics, Management and Environmental Studies, SibFU.

Professor Vitaly Minin from the Department of Transportation and Technological Machinery, Polytechnic Institute, SibFU, has become an awardee of the National Competition 'Best Research Monograph 2012'. His book 'Increasing Efficiency of Compact Loaders' was one of the best in the 'Engineering' nomination.
