A team of students from the Department of Accounting and Statistics have won the first place in the National Competition in Accounting and Economic Analysis. The team was supported by the Institute of Economics, Management and Environmental Studies and the Institute of Arts and Sciences, Siberian Federal University.

The university administrators formally assumed their positions on the 7th of December, following the Rector’s approval of their appointments.

Work on the university campuses is among top regional investment projects.This year Krasnoyarsk Krai Regional Assembly approved an investment of 500 million roubles ($20 million) to complete the construction of a research lab, the university library and the main administrative building. The Regional Assembly is planning to invest an additional 990 million roubles (about $40 million) in construction and engineering work for the university's benefit.

The Innovation Programme of Advanced Studies at Siberian Federal University provided four university lecturers with an opportunity to take a course of advanced studies at Durham University, a world-class institution.

Two lecturers from the Department of Modern Languages, Siberian Federal University had training courses abroad to improve their Chinese language teaching.

Students from Siberian Federal University (Institute of Arts and Sciences) won the Russian Cup in Mountain Tourism on December 1 in Novosibirsk.

The Russian Foundation for Basic Research will support the Fifth Siberian Congress of Women in Mathematics to be held at Siberian Federal University on 15-18 January. The Head of the Congress Organizing Committee is Professor O.G. Provorova from the Department of Advanced Mathematics.

The university research project Thermal processing of coal for thermal power stations won a medal at the exhibition Electromechanical Systems, Power Engineering and Energy Efficiency on 20-23 November in Krasnoyarsk. The head of the research group is Professor V.A. Dubrovsky form the Department of Thermal Power Stations, Polytechnic Institute, Siberian Federal University.

SFU scientists presented several papers at the IV European Symposium on Biopolymers in Turkey (October 2007). This area of the university’s research focuses on producing bioplastics for various purposes. The research was carried out by Siberian Federal University and the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch.
